I had a chance to speak to some of you about what you love about Crossfit and I kept hearing one thing over and over again. It was a common thread. Community. So let’s look at exactly what it means.
Community: A feeling of fellowship with others as a result of sharing common attitudes, interests and goals.
Talking to our members collectively it stood out to me how different and diverse we all are. We differ in age from teenagers to …….. let’s say matured. We differ in life experiences and culturally. When it comes to professions we are Doctors, Teachers, Nurses, Salespeople, Administrators, Construction workers of nearly every trade. We are Moms, Dads, Brothers, Sisters, Grandparents, Aunts, Uncles, Sons and Daughters but we make up a community because we have one common goal: to be the best version of ourselves that we can be. Some of us walked through the doors of CrossFit Diversion not knowing who we were, or what we could accomplish. What we found was an amazing and welcoming group that helps us along our journey.
Just stop and think about your workout each day. You walk in, warm-up, go over the workout, workout and then continue with your day. But look deeper. For that hour, Is your phone in your hand? Have you sent 15-20 texts? Checked your Twitter? Think about how you take an hour not just to workout but also to talk. We live in a world where people don’t have regular conversations with their neighbors. That’s what makes this gym special. I have met incredible people and have friends I never would have found without CrossFit and I know I’m not alone in saying that. I never got that feeling before I attended a CrossFit box. Every globo gym I worked out in I rarely spoke to anyone, I almost always had headphones in and worked out in my own little world. But that changed as soon as I stepped foot into a CrossFit box. And it’s something that we all love about CrossFit Diversion.
I’m sure if you have had the pleasure to interact with any of our members on social media you’ve seen this: #ThisIsMyTeam. Or maybe you’ve seen one of our pretty cool looking shirts or window decals that feature the hashtag. At first glance you may have thought “Oh that’s the gym they attend” but to me it has a little more meaning. To me it means if I’m at the highs or lows of life, if I’m struggling to find what I’m capable of overcoming or enduring I can go somewhere and be surrounded by people who want nothing more than to help me find the very best version of myself that I can be. They will suffer and sweat right alongside me, be a listening ear, motivate and inspire me. They will help me do things I never thought would ever be possible, and we’ll do it together. You’d be amazed what can be accomplished when you’re supported by an entire community. It’s difficult to put into words how much I have gained from this community. But it’s easy to show you. Just walk through the door and you’ll experience it all for yourself.
